True involutional entropion

Lashes rub the cornea

Last reviewed: 2026-10-06 · 潘家健醫生

Key points

  • True entropion is an abnormal lid-margin position with lashes rubbing the cornea; involutional entropion is common in older adults.
  • Unlike epiblepharon, the lid margin itself is malpositioned.
  • Severe pain, sudden vision drop or a white cornea needs prompt ophthalmology care.
  • Surgery is an examination decision — no booking or clinic comparison here.

What it is

Ageing lid tissues let the margin turn in so lashes rub the cornea. It is not the same as childhood epiblepharon.

What a doctor may discuss

  • Tape or lubricant as a stopgap
  • Surgery to tighten and re-position the lid — type is individual
  • This page does not compare brands or quote success rates

This is general medical information, not a diagnosis, and cannot replace an in-person consultation with a registered ophthalmologist, refraction, or a dilated fundus exam. It is not advice to use any medicine or undergo any procedure. Medicines (including off-label use), laser or surgery must be decided by a registered doctor after examination, according to indications and Hong Kong registration.
