Epiblepharon (false entropion)

An extra skin fold

Last reviewed: 2026-10-06 · 潘家健醫生

Key points

  • Epiblepharon pushes lashes toward the cornea with a skin fold while the lid margin position stays normal.
  • It is common in East Asian children’s lower lids; some improve with facial growth.
  • Gently lifting the fold with a cotton bud can let lashes point forward — a teaching contrast with true entropion, not home diagnosis.
  • Ongoing irritation, photophobia or corneal involvement needs ophthalmology assessment.

A fold of skin pushes lashes inward, common in East Asian children. Many improve with growth. A doctor may discuss lubricant, taping or, if the cornea is damaged, surgery. No success-rate claims here.

This is general medical information, not a diagnosis, and cannot replace an in-person consultation with a registered ophthalmologist, refraction, or a dilated fundus exam. It is not advice to use any medicine or undergo any procedure. Medicines (including off-label use), laser or surgery must be decided by a registered doctor after examination, according to indications and Hong Kong registration. Figures from the literature are published averages, not any clinic’s results. This site does not book, prescribe or refer. Do not change treatment on your own.
