This site provides general eye-health education. It cannot replace individual assessment by a registered doctor, and does not offer personal diagnosis, prescriptions, bookings, sales or referrals.

If translations differ or are incomplete, the Traditional Chinese (zh-Hant) text on this site prevails.

Procedure teaching illustration

A schematic illustration of four procedures. Not a simulator, not a test, and not an operative guide.

This cannot replace a registered doctor. It does not diagnose, prescribe, book, sell, or refer.

Line diagrams

The frames below are line diagrams, not your eye, not a patient photograph, and not a before-and-after picture.

1A cloudy lens

Cataract: your own lens has clouded.

2Drops, lying down, a bright light

Most people have numbing drops. A very bright light is expected.

3Coolness and pressure

Most people feel coolness, water or pressure. Tell the doctor at once if it stings.

4A clear implant left in the bag

A structural diagram. The cloudy lens is removed and an implant is placed in the original bag. Not a before-and-after photograph.

5Four classes, not products

The small dashed mark is a toric add-on for astigmatism. It can be added to any class. It is not a fifth class.

No class suits everyone. See Choosing an intraocular lens — detail.

6A shield, home the same day

Most people go home the same day. Blur that day is common, not the final vision. Worse pain or a sharp vision drop: go to A&E now.
